Our Cub Scout Pack

Who We Are

Cub Scouts collectively form a 'Pack' - just as Beavers form a 'Colony', Scouts a 'Troop' and Explorer Scouts a 'Unit'. They are normally aged between eight and ten and a half years old. We automatically phase them into the Troop.

We, like all Packs, have a waiting list of boys and girls wishing to join. It is advisable to put their names down as soon as possible. Our Beavers get priority for available places.

We normally have 24 - 30 Cub Scouts who are supervised by 5 warranted Leaders and 3 Colony Assistants. The Cubs are organised into 4 'sixes' - Blue, Red, Green and Yellow - each with 6 or more Cubs.

Our Cub Scouts can be recognised by their green sweatshirt, dark red necker and long, dark blue activity trousers.

What We Do

There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform.

Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean you sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities.

Our Badges

As a Cub Scout, you can earn, subject to the agreement of the Pack Leaders
  • Moving On Awards - potentially 2, one gained if you have come from the Beaver Colony when you are invested into the Cub Scout Pack, and then at the going up ceremony when you join the Scout Troop
  • 7 Challenge Badges
  • 33 Activity Badges
  • 6 staged-Activity Badges - as you become more proficient / experienced in these activities, the award is progressively upgraded through 5 or 6 levels
  • 3 Partnership Awards - completed with other Sections in Scouting or an outside body
  • the Chief Scout's Silver Award - the highest award

These are in addition to

  • the World Membership, District, County badges and Group nametape which are awarded when you are invested into the Pack
  • Joining In awards presented each year from the date when you were first invested into the Scout Movement, perhaps when you joined the Beaver Colony, to recognise that you have taken part in balanced programmes over those periods of time

Full details of the requirements of each badge can be obtained from the ScoutBase UK website - Press here to access for more details and to find out where to place the badges on the Cub uniform.

Our Cub Scout Promise, Law and Motto

As a member of the Scout Movement, when you join the Cub Scouts, you make the Cub Scout Promise :

Our Cub Scout Promise

I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout Law

We all regularly renew this promise, especially when new members join and at the annual District St. George's Day service.

Our Cub Scout Law

Our Cub Scout Law is :

Cub Scouts always do their best
Think of others before themselves
And do a good turn every day.

Our Cub Scout Motto

Be Prepared
